50 Cent Wants Judge To Throw Out Case

While receiving phone calls and messages intended for a former employer can certainly be aggravating, 50 Cent argues that it does not support claims of a prolonged harassment campaign. The rapper has asked a federal judge to throw out a lawsuit filed by his former assistant, Monique Mayers, maintaining that the allegations fail to establish any direct involvement on his part.

Mayers, who served as 50 Cent’s personal assistant from 2007 through 2019, filed suit in April alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy. She claims she lost her job after refusing requests she believed involved unlawful activity. Following her departure, Mayers says she was bombarded with more than 80 unwanted calls and messages, many from individuals asking to speak with “Curtis,” “50,” or “Fif.” She alleges the repeated contact was part of an effort to intimidate her and believes it was connected to her former employer.

The rapper’s legal team rejects those accusations. According to a recent court filing cited by TMZ, his attorneys argue the complaint contains no factual allegations showing that 50 Cent personally called, texted, left voicemails, or directed anyone else to contact or threaten Mayers. Instead, they contend the calls can be explained by the fact that she spent years working as his assistant, during which her phone number became associated with him. As a result, they argue, people were simply attempting to reach the rapper through an outdated point of contact. The filing also questions why Mayers chose not to change her phone number or inform her contacts if the calls had become an ongoing problem.

The defense is also seeking dismissal based on timing. Attorneys for 50 Cent argue that Mayers waited more than seven years after leaving her position before bringing the lawsuit, asserting that her claims are barred by the applicable statute of limitations. In addition, they object to references in the complaint involving the rapper’s prior bankruptcy and allegations that he once asked Mayers to submit a false police report, arguing those claims have no bearing on the legal issues before the court and were included solely to attract publicity and negatively influence public perception.

Describing the lawsuit as an attempt to generate media attention, 50 Cent is asking the court to dismiss the case in full and award him reimbursement for his legal expenses. The court has not yet ruled on the motion, meaning the dispute remains pending as the litigation moves forward in federal court.
