Lil Wayne’s Rant About Coachella Ignoring Him

Lil Wayne has once again expressed his disappointment over what he perceives as a lack of recognition from major music institutions, though the inclusion of Coachella in his latest remarks appears somewhat unexpected.

The 43-year-old hip-hop icon remains one of the most influential figures in the genre’s history. However, recent years have clearly left him reflecting on how the industry has moved on from his peak era. In the early hours of Saturday, April 18, Wayne took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his candid thoughts, noting that major events such as the Grammys and Coachella continue to pass him by without involvement. He expressed gratitude to his loyal fans for providing the consistent support he values most.

“It’s truly a humbling experience when events like Coachella & the Grammys come around & like clockwork, I’m uninvited & uninvolved,” he wrote. “I appreciate my position or space I hold in ya heart & mind if so. bc you’re the humbling experience that’s timeless & 4dat I thk u. Iaints**twithoutu.”

While the message was somewhat vague and unstructured, Wayne’s frustration with the Grammys is not unfamiliar. The lack of nominations or significant recognition for recent projects, including the widely discussed Tha Carter VI, appears to have been particularly disappointing, despite mixed critical reception to the album as a legacy release. His most recent Grammy performance came in 2023.

Regarding Coachella, Wayne performed at the affiliated Revolve Festival during the first weekend of the 2025 event and made a guest appearance during G-Eazy’s set in 2016. However, he has never secured a dedicated set or headlining slot at the main Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a fact that evidently contributes to his sense of exclusion.

By describing the situation as a “truly humbling experience,” Wayne may be signaling a more reflective and measured perspective than the tweet initially suggests. Nevertheless, this sentiment echoes previous comments he has made about feeling overlooked in today’s music landscape.

A notable recent instance involved the Super Bowl halftime show. When Jay-Z announced Kendrick Lamar as the headliner for the New Orleans event, many fans believed Lil Wayne— a hometown hero—should have been selected instead. Wayne publicly addressed his disappointment at the time but appeared to move forward. The latest post suggests that questions about his current standing and the recognition he receives continue to weigh on him.

It is hoped that the veteran artist will continue to find fulfillment through new creative endeavors, high-profile performances, or other professional milestones. For context, Lil Wayne has earned five Grammy Awards from a total of 28 nominations over the course of his illustrious career.
